We are Cleveland.

We are the city of the first African American Mayor, the gas mask, the traffic light, the first city of light, superman and a city of once great inspiration to the country.

We are the city of Jesse Owens, Carl Stokes, Garrett Morgan, Charles Brush, Langston Hughes, Henry Mancini, Dorothy Dandridge, Paul Newman and many others who have positively impacted the world around them.

We are the city of Free Speech and those who possess the resolve to use it.

Use the inspiration of those who were 99% and changed the world as we know it without having to compromise the less fortunate around them. Yes, many of them have moved on from Cleveland and this world all together, but let us not forget that this great city of the 99% can and will produce those who will make sure that we are not forgotten. Let our voices be heard that our message is not of distain for business or America, but the will to want to make the world we live in a better place for everyone.

There was a revolutioary who helped perpetuate the American revolution who stated quite clearly, and I paraphrase “We have the power to begin the world anew.” Witnessing the spirit of the Occupy Cleveland Movement when I had the privledge of attending this past Sunday was breathtaking as it was moving. The collective spirit that I witnessed shattered any pre-concieved notion that this was anything but a real people’s revolution.

The working class in this country has gotten the short end of the stick for too long. The supposed Christian values that this country was founded on have been hijacked by greed and corporate power.

Witnessing the spirit and giving nature of local Cleveland residents and like minded individuals was truly inspiring. Everyone learning that we all have a story to share and testimony as to what we see the inequality that has manifested itself in our capatalism, and then giving in every sense of the word! The salvation army and local business have donated food, clothing, and supplies in the quest to both see and ‘be the change’ as Ghandi famously stated. I encourage you all to keep the faith in your endevour and don’t give into the cynical nature that we as humans can succumb to. Braving the elements, I liken in my mind Cleveland Occupiers to the brutal winter of Valley Forge. ‘The people’s army’ fighting for Independence from a royal crown fought tooth and nail and I see in you guys a spirit that will not be defeated. You will not be defeated. Keep the faith in the cause for social, economic justice! Thank you for your example in how to inspire participatory democracy!
